About Energy Transformation

• The workshop seeks to be a platform to exchange lessons learned and best practices in the development and implementation of decarbonisation strategies driven by renewable energy, energy efficiency and electrification.

• Costa Rica is a full member of irena since June 2018.

• The International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), the German cooperation agency giz and minae organized workshop.

In order to support the efforts of Latin American countries to undertake the transformation of their energy sector, the ministry of environment and energy (Minae), the international renewable energy agency (Irena) and the German technical cooperation agency (Giz) ), organized the regional workshop on regional energy transformation.

The workshop seeks to be a platform to exchange lessons learned and best practices in the development and implementation of decarbonisation strategies driven by renewable energy, energy efficiency and electrification.

The participation of representatives of international agencies and countries such as Belize, El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Honduras and Chile.

“Costa Rica was selected to perform this workshop for its global leadership in the approach of renewable energies; a recognition that also commits us to continue working to achieve our goal of decarbonisation in 2050”, said the minister of environment and Energy, Carlos Manuel Rodriguez.
The first day is dedicated to addressing strategies to promote decarbonisation, analyzing topics such as global energy transformation, policy frameworks to accelerate the energy transition in Latin America, the economic and social benefits of energy transformation as well as the role of the Decentralization in the transformation of the sector. The second day will be dedicated to know the technology and innovation available to enable low carbon energy systems, in this context will address topics such as: Decarbonise the electric sector and the heat and cooling sectors as well as the penetration of renewable energy in the transport sector .

” during the workshop the national energy efforts of the energy sector will be known on topics such as: the national plan of decarbonisation, the perspectives of marine energy, the role and impact of policies on renewable energy and energy efficiency, the integration of resources in demand To provide auxiliary services, topics of gender equity in the energy sector and electromobility “, said the minister of energy, Rolando Castro Córdoba.

The meeting takes place on 7 AND 8 October at the convention center, within the framework of the precop, with the support of the ministry of foreign affairs and worship and its permanent mission to irena.
